My First Podcast Interview With They See Me Mommin’!

on
December 31, 2018

I recently had the honor of being a guest on the They See Me Mommin’ podcast. This marks the first time I’ve ever been interviewed on a podcast (or any media for that matter), so it was thrilling and nerve-wracking and ultimately a lot of fun.

If you haven’t heard this podcast before, here’s the elevator pitch: Two mommy friends who are in many ways alike and also very diverse in others. Maria is an indomitable midwesterner with the endearing spirit of an Energizer bunny. Viv is a charming Brit with a talent for one-liners and is more laid-back by nature. They both have two boys and shared interests ranging from cake to all things Harry Potter. Together they are hilarious and irreverent, and it’s just a really entertaining podcast to listen to. Some of my favorite past episodes of theirs are on teaching kids kindness, and their honest and hysterical stories of parenting fails.

So when they invited me on to discuss my eco friendly ways, and I was more than happy to oblige!

It was genuinely fun to recount my personal evolution towards eco-consciousness, and answer all their questions about eco-friendly products and how to incorporate more sustainable practices into their everyday parenting lives.

A big reason why I started Eco Friendly Mama was to be a bridge for other people who are maybe interested in being better to the planet but not sure where to start, or intimidated by entire concept, or maybe just need concrete ideas and examples of easy things they can change about their lifestyles.

It was also great to simply hang out with these two fantastic mommies.

Though I’ve made many connections with other bloggers, a lot of our interactions happen over the internet. So it’s always nice to be face to face with friends and spend time together IRL. We spent most of the time laughing and cracking each other up, and to be honest I kind of forgot we were even recording for most of the time. That’s also probably due in part to their talent for bringing you immediately into their fold. Listening to They See Me Mommin’ is like having a phone conversation with close friends.

Going into this podcast, I was most nervous about the fact that it was taped live.

I’ve just never been perfectly comfortable with speaking off the cuff. With writing, you can go back and edit and hone and perfect until you’re absolutely certain your post is ready. With a podcast, you record, and the words are out there in the world. There’s no taking back what you’ve said, or polishing out the “ums” or “ahs” or “like, you knows.”

To my surprise, I actually enjoyed answering their questions in real time!

As it turns out, I love talking about being eco-friendly and helping people discover new ways they too can become more eco-friendly. So the words just flowed, and I hopefully didn’t stumble too much to get them out.

That’s another difference between doing a podcast and writing. With writing, you’re usually sitting by yourself while you compose the post. Then you hit publish and hope that some kind souls leave you comments so you know people are actually reading your work. Participating in this They See Me Mommin’ podcast interview gifted me with the immediate satisfaction of knowing I’d hopefully made a small difference in someone’s journey towards living a more sustainable life.
